Visa U.S.A. hit the mark with its forecast for the percentage of consumer bankruptcies that would occur during the first part of this year. Results for the first six months of 2000 fulfilled Visa's prediction, with 604,764 consumers filing for bankruptcy. The numbers represent a 5.7 percent downturn from the same period the previous year. However, Visa does not anticipate the ebb in filings for the first half of the year will continue, but rather believes that personal bankruptcies will resume their upward shift to over 1.3 million in 2001.
