Web-Only Banks' CD Rates Pressure Bigger Online Rivals
American Banker (09/01/00) Vol. 95, No. 10 p.1; Ackerman, Matt
A survey of CD rates at Web-only banks and traditional
banks finds that Chase and other non-Internet banks average 6.29
percent, while the Internet banks average 6.875 percent. The
survey was conducted by Financenter.com, whose CEO, Sherri
Neasham, says the traditional banks' higher overhead is keeping
their CD rates lower than those of Internet-only banks. However,
consultant Burton Greenwald says non-Internet banks still benefit
from consumers' reluctance to buy investment products online.
