Change Comes From Within
e.bill (08/00) Vol. 2, No. 4 p.38; Strong, Carolyn
Electronic bill payment continues to grow in
popularity, as banking customers become more comfortable
conducting business transactions online. Users of the relatively
new service have not always been so open-minded. When some banks
started offering e-bill payment in the early 1990s, customers
were initially reluctant, and when they did use the service, they
did so with care. Today, customers prefer paying their
utilities, telephone, and credit card bills electronically. In
fact, about 30 percent of these bills are paid electronically.
Although errors are par for the course, the benefits of e-bill
payment far outweigh any possible mistakes.
