Forget What You've Heard, Term Insurance Is Not a Commodity
National Underwriter (Life/Health) (03/12/01) Vol. 105, No. 11 p.25; Dixon, Allen
Contrary to popular opinion, term insurance is not a
commodity, according to Allen Dixon, director of carrier implementations
at insLogic. Dixon says for too long now, term insurance has been
inaccurately portrayed as a commodity within the industry. Although
"the fundamental terms and conditions of term insurance can be found in
all term policies," he argues that there are "wide differences in policy
provisions and benefits, and available riders." To their detriment,
Dixon says most consumers do not trouble themselves to compare these
product features. With no where else to turn to receive the answers to
their questions, he says the end result is consumers who are ill-advised
and poorly served.
