Growing Number of Firms Trying to Keep and Attract Older
Philadelphia Inquirer Online (05/21/01) Vol. 105, No. 20 p.4; Holcomb, Henry J.
Companies like CVS are courting older workers out of
retirement and into the workforce, and other companies are enticing
older workers to remain in the workforce and out of retirement. About
80 percent of older workers intend to continue working throughout their
retirement, and about 16 percent expect not to work for pay. CVS hires
older workers because they are more responsible, care about customers,
and are good role models for younger workers. Businesses trying to
retain their older workers are offering flexible schedules and reduced
workloads.
