New accounting applications are enabling small businesses to develop a Web presence and build other hosted e-business applications. Intuit will release QuickBooks Site Solutions (QSS), which will allow companies to manage aspects of their business online, such as payroll, budgeting, and accounting features. QSS faces serious competition from the already established NetLedger's, which has re-launched a new version of its product, called NetLedger 4.0. NetLedger 4.0's new features include custom report generation, a payroll module that calculates taxes, an online ordering function, budgeting, and universal login.
